The course presents the painter Paolo Veronese (1522-1588), a key figure of the late Renaissance in Venice and the Veneto.
Syllabus:
The course aims at giving an introduction to the life and works of Paolo Veronese in the broad context of the art and visual, religious, political and religious culture of his times. In four sections, we will treat, respectively, the artist’s early years, his first major commissions in Venice and on the mainland, the series of monumental “Suppers”, and the problem of the workshop, with special attention to Veronese’s last years.
