Learning outcomes

The course aims at investigating issues and methods of the historian’s job as well as at introducing the concept because of which a history book is a product of his work. The lecture points out the following elements: a) which is the main issues that driver the author; b) which is the research behind it; c) to which cultural context does it belong; d) which are the used sources; e) which is the methodological approach used by the author.

Syllabus

Contents of the course: The advanced module focuses on the history of European historiography and on the origin of the idea of Europe. Part of the course concerns the practice of writing a history book as a constructing element in National identity, in relation to different geographical areas – from the Balkans to the Middle East, from Russia to Japan, from India to the United States, from “Padania” to Italy.
