Learning outcomes

Knowledge of the historical path of Italian literature, from the origins to the Eighteen hundred: texts and contexts, influences and coding. Acquaintance of the essential instruments in order to analyse literary structures and forms.

Syllabus

Contents of the course:
1. From the origins to Dante: Dante’s Inferno (20 hours) = 3 credits.
a) Historical-geographical paths in the thirteenth and early fourteenth-century literature.
b) lectura Dantis: Inferno,: I-XI, XIII; XV; XVII; XIX; XXIII; XXVI-XXVIII; XXXI-XXXIV.
2. Literary paths: poetry and prose, from Petrarca and Boccaccio to Foscolo (20 hours) = 3 credits.
a) the canon: Pietro Bembo’s thought and works.
3. Passion representation: from the Enlightenment to Manzoni (20 hours) = 3 credits.
a) from Fermo e Lucia to Promessi Sposi.

Assessment methods and criteria

the student’s preparation will be checked through an oral exam that will evaluate his/her understanding of the three subjects of the programme.
