Learning outcomes

The course aims at offering a framework of the main organization models which used to be applied in the past and are still adopted in enterprises nowadays, though in different contexts of activities. Besides, it will deepen some emerging themes about the Human Resources Management.

Syllabus

In details, the programme of the course will include the following steps:
STEP 1
The Organizational Question: Definitions and Problems;
Some Archetypals of Modern Organizations;
The Technological Cycle: The Model by Rohmert and Luczak ;
The Industrial Revolution and the first attempts of rationalizing work.
STEP 2
Theories and Models of Work Organization;
Beginnings of Organizational Thought – Classical School (Weber,Fayol, etc.);
Fatigue, Industrial Monotony, Efficiency and Productivity;
Classical Job-Analysis (Taylor, Ford, Mr and Mrs Gilbreth, etc.);
The Human Relation Movement (Mayo, etc.);
The Socio-Technical Systems;
Man-Machine-Environment Models (the Ergonomics);
The Bounded Rationality Theory (H. Simon).
STEP 3
Organizational Behaviour:
Conflict:
- Groups in Organizations (Bass, Lewin, Likert, etc.)
- Cooperation and Competition (Interactive and Operative Efficiency)
- Organizational Change and Resistance
Decisions (Decision-Making):
- Heuristics and Human Errors

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam provides for a compulsory written part, which is the same for those who both attend and do not attend. It deals with the Handbook by Prof. Favretto (A) and will be carry out through a multiple-choice performance questionnaire.
Those who attend the lessons can hold the optional oral part (B) after the written one. Those who do not attend the lessons can hold the optional oral part only if the mark in the written part is equal to or higher than twenty-eight (out of thirty).
