Learning outcomes

The course of History of Medieval Architecture (i) intends to introduce the students to a precise knowledge of the principals monuments of the architecture in the Western and in the Eastern Medieval Age. There will be studied also the main sculptural apparatus of the buildings taken in examination.

Syllabus

Prerequisites: To enter the teaching of the History of the Medieval Architecture the student must have taken the exam of History of Medieval Art or at least have attended the course during the previous or the current academic year.

Course contents: The course focuses on the main Architectures of the Early Christian time, of the barbarian domains, of the Carolingian and Ottonian time, till the Romanic and Gothic Era.
The first part of the course includes lectures and analysis of the medieval buildings and a deeper comprehension of the architectures based on their destination and use. The lessons will take place in class. (3 credits)
The second part of the course will include exercises on some of the main Architectures in Verona. The lessons will take place in front of the buildings. (3 credits)
