Learning outcomes

knowledge of the main stages of Mesopotamian civilization and their material culture and artistic achievements; knowledge of the specific characteristics of the archaeological investigation in the Near-Eastern area and of basic literature and methodological issues of the research activity

Syllabus

Prerequisites: knowledge of the main historical phases and events of the ancient Near East

Course content:
a) main phases of ancient Near East art; b) detailed study of some archaeological sites of paramount significance for exemplifying the various stages of the Mesopotamian civilization with particular reference to recent research.

Teaching methods: lectures, guided analysis of iconographic and material documents.
Attendance is strongly recommended and students unable to attend are invited to consult the teacher for defining the program.
