Learning outcomes

The course aims at understanding the Latin literature, both in its fundamental issues (with special focus on the literary genres) and in some of its most significant texts; the course intends to provide students with some basic tools, in order to enhance the skills necessary for a grammatical, stylistic, literary-historical and pragmatic analysis of both prosastic and poetic texts

Syllabus

Pre-requirements: basilar knowledge of the Latin language.

Contents of the Course:
Latin literature and literary genres; reading of the IV and XII books of Virgil’s Aeneid, of Satires of Horace, de amicitia of Cicero, in its grammatical, stylistic, literary-historical and pragmatics aspects. Enhancement of the ability to do a metrical reading.

Didactic Methods: lessons.

Assessment methods and criteria

An interview, partly via readings of texts in the original language, which intends to ascertain that the course’s aims have been reached.
