The history of the Greek language describes the linguistic development of the Greek language from Mycenaean culture (Linear B tables) in the IInd millennium B.C. through the invention of the Greek alphabet (begin of the Ist millennium) till the koinè phase (IV sec. B.C.).
The course foresees the explanation of the Indo-European origin of the Greek language, its comparison with the structure of other Indo-European Languages, the illustration of the different script systems and finally the reading and comment of many Mycenaean and old Greek inscriptions.
