The lessons aim at supplying a method of approaching the Veneto art, based upon the knowledge of the main artistic movements in the XVth and XVIth centuries both from the formal and the iconographical point of view.

Pre-requisite: not necessary; this notwithstanding the preparation of the exam is suggested after passing the introductive module of Modern Art History.

The course aims at describing the main phases of the Veneto art in the XVth and XVIth centuries, with further special regard to the most relevant artistic movements that took place in the mainland (Padua and Verona).

Themes of the course:
- The first half of the Quattrocento in Venice: from Gentile da Fabriano to Antonio Vivarini
- The first half of the Quattrocento in the mainland: Pisanello; Padua
- The second half of the Quattrocento in Venice: Jacopo, Gentile and Giovanni Belini
- The second half of the Quattrocento in Padua: Andrea Mantegna
- The venetian sculpture in the XV centuryth
- The Cinquecento season: Giorgione, Tiziano, Tintoretto, Veronese
- The venetian sculpture in the XVI centuryth

Texts of reference:
the texts of reference will be signalled during the lessons and, at the same time, in the web-site.

NB: all the texts will be available in the Frinzi Library or the Time, Image, Space and Society Department Library.

Teaching methods: frontal lessons with projection of pictures and analysis of texts.
