Educational goals: basic knowledge of the Assyro-Babylonian grammar, basic linguistic competence for reading and interpreting simple documents; introduction to the study of the epigraphic heritage of the Near East and related problems.
Prerequisistes: general historical and linguistic competence
Content of course: a) the Assyro-Babylonian language: elements of phonetics, morphology and syntax; b) the international correspondence in Assyro-babylonian language in the Late Bronze age, particularly from the el-Amarna archive, and the international treaties of the same period and in the Near Eastern tradition.
Teaching methods: Lectures, guided analysis of documents in original language. Attendance is strongly recommended and students unable to attend are invited to consult the teacher for defining the programme.
