Educational goals: knowledge of the main stages of Near Eastern civilization and its material culture and artistic achievements; knowledge of the specific characteristics of the archaeological investigation in the Near-Eastern area and of basic literature and methodological issues of the research activity.
Prerequisites: Knowledge of the main historical phases and events of the ancient Near East
Content of course: a) main cultural and artistic phases of the ancient Near East; b) introduction to the archaeology of Anatolia; c) detailed study of some archaeological sites of the Anatolian area, with particular reference to recent research activity concerning the second mill. BC.
The course is included in the incentive program for foreign language education and points b) and c) will be taught in English by a foreign teacher.
Teaching methods: Lectures. Attendance is strongly recommended and students unable to attend are invited to consult the teacher for defining the programme.
