This course aims at familiarizing the participants with some tecniques and models of linguistic analysis, by taking into account linguistic phenomena at the interface between grammatical systems and systems of interpretation.
The course will be organized in two parts: the first part will investigate the relationship between syntax and semantics of the noun phrase, by concentrating on the distributional and interpretive properties of “bare nouns” across languages; the second part will concern the relationship between grammatical systems and information structure, by considering the linguistic properties of focused, topicalized and contrastive constituents.
