Learning outcomes

reading and understanding Roman inscriptions; basic knowlodges in using inscriptions as historical sources.

Syllabus

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of Latin language and of Roman history.

Contents of course: taxonomy of Latin inscriptions; inscription as document and as monument; Roman onomastic rules; central and local administration; reading and editing Latin inscriptions. A study case: Claudius’ edict de civitate Anaunorum (CIL, V, 5050).
