Prerequisites: None (the introductory modules of Medieval, Modern and Contemporary Art History are recommended).

Contents of the Course: Elements of museology and the history of collecting. The module analyzes the main dynamics operating in the formation of public and private art collections. In view of the critical and historiographical debate, it will explore the ways collections are managed, the works are preserved, and the commercial variables to which they have been subjected throughout the centuries (with particular attention to the Italian area from Middle Age to the XX century)

The module will have a one-and-a-half hour written examination on the texts listed in the bibliography, followed by a brief oral examination that includes discussion of the written test and of a museum previously chosen and visited by the student.
