Learning outcomes

This course has two objectives: first, to examine the media and the technologies used to record and transmit music in the Western world; second, to acquire the knowledge and tools necessary to analyze and create editorial products concerned with music.

Syllabus

The course is divided in two parts. The first comprises a short historical introduction to the history of European music between the Middle Ages and the Baroque era, followed by a historical overview of the audio-visual recording of this repertory. We will then focus on the tools and techniques of present-day musical publishing, analyzing multimedia products and resources relating to the repertories mentioned above.
The second part of the course consists of seminar discussions of recent audio-visual products presented by students.
