Argument structure in theory and praxis
The course aims to provide the tools to critically assess the applicability of the theory of argument structure in the study of languages both synchronic and diachronic terms
The course of Historical Linguistics introduces the main aspects of some theories about the argument structure in order to focus on the interface between syntax and semantics. Different models and functions of alignment of Indo-European languages will be illustrated in the context of their applying to old languages from a diachronic point of view. Some examples will be taken specifically from Latin and Greek, Late Latin, Old Indian and Hittite.
