Learning outcomes

The course is conceived as an introduction to logic and philosophy of science,
with the presentation of the most important philosophical problems connected to the development of the scientific method.

Syllabus

Logic

(a) Elements of propositional logic.
(b) Elementsofsemantics.
(c) The calculus of natural deduction.


Philosophy of science

(a) Discovery and explanation.
(b) Trends: Positivism, conventionalism, logic empiricism, fallibilism, operationism, theory of scientific revolutions.
(c) Reasoning: induction, deduction, abduction.
(d) Science, philosophy and metaphysics.
(e) Science and values
