Learning outcomes

The course intends to offer an overview and introduction in the historical techniques, the functions, the historiography, the museology and the principal schools of drawing in Europe between the fifteenth and the eighteenth century.

Syllabus

The course will be in english and consist of class lectures and some (up to three) excursions to drawings-departments in Italian museums within reach for day-trips from Verona to study Original drawings.
We will analyze the various drawing techniques, historiographical and museological questions, and the various functions of the histrical drawing. The scholls of drawing we will analyze are the tusco-roman school (Raphael, Michelangelo, Parmigianino, up to the great baroque artist, Pietro da Cortona, Bernini), the Venetian school (the Bellini, Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, Bassano), and the Flemish/Dutch school (Goltzius, Rubens, the great landscape artists, Rembrandt).

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam.
