Learning outcomes

Reflect on some kind of South American political regimes (such as Cesarism, Bonapartism, Fascisms, Populism) and on their specificities in the context of the contemporary political ideas and movements

Syllabus

At least since François-Auguste Romieu published "L'ére des Césars" in 1850, scholars tried to define a type of political regime not contemplated in the classical triad. To this end, different terms were used: Caesarism, Bonapartism, Fascism, Populism. The course will try to trace the itinerary of these words and notions, in Europe and in Latin America.
