The course aims to provide an advanced approach to Latin literature, related to a sample of chosen texts. Lessons will focus on the main critical approaches to the study of Latin literature, with theoretical analyses, as well on readings of the chosen texts, with reference to their textual, linguistic, stylistic, dramaturgical and thematic features. Prerequisites: Advanced knowledge of Latin language. Expected learning outcomes: at the end of the course the student - knows the essential characteristics of the texts in question; - is able to provide a close translation and a linguistic analysis of the texts; - develops autonomous ability to understand and interpret the texts and their formal features; - improves communication skills, reflecting on the linguistic, dramaturgical and cultural codes of communication, through the translation of the text; - is stimulated to develop autonomous ability to reclect on the features of the different Latin literary genres.
Teaching will devoted to a literary, historical and philological analysis of the second book of Ovidius Metamorphosis, with a specific focus on its literary aspects and on the global design of this work.
The course will be implemented with lessons devoted to latin literary genres, with specific reference to the poetry.
Student are also requested to study chapters III-VIII of the handbook of A. Traina - G. Bernardi Perini, Propedeutica al latino universitario.
Teaching methods:
Teaching will be divided in lessons and seminars, aiming to involve students and to provide their critical judgment, through discussion and debate opportunities.

The exam consist of an oral interview, partly via readings of texts in the original language, which intend to ascertain the level of achievement of the learning obiectives previously indicated, namely:
- knowledge of main features of latin hexameter poetry;
- autonomous skill to read, understand and translate Ovidius' Metamorphosis, book V;
- knowledge of linguistic, stylistic, literary, analysis with regard to Ovidius' Metamorphosis, book V.
