Office hours are scheduled each Tuesday; to avoid the crowding of students waiting for the interview, it's compulsory to schedule an appointment by mail. Students may contact the teacher by mail, even for appointments in video conference or for appointments in presence in different days.

Curriculum

Master degree in Classics at the Faculty of Arts of the Sapienza University of Rome. After some professional experiences in high school teaching and in the civil service at the School for Public Administration training, he was researcher of Latin Language and Literature in the Faculty of Education at the University of Cassino from 1984 to 1992, then associate professor of Latin Grammar (1992-2000) and full professor of Latin Language and Literature (2000-2008) in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cassino. Full professor of Classical Philology from 2008 to 2018 in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, he is now full professor of Latin Language and Literature in the University of Verona.
He held many charges at Cassino University: Director of the Degree Course in Humanities (1995-2001), Director of the Centre for International Relations (1993-1997),Vice-Rector for International and External Relations (1997-2001), Deputy Rector (2001-2007), Dean of the Faculty of Arts (2003-2007), member of the Board of Directors (1984-1988 e 2016-2018). He held even several charges at the European Commission, at the Ministry of Education, University and Research, and in some Italian and European University, as expert of european cooperation programmes and research programmes evaluation. He is also disciplinary assessor on behalf of the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes, and he is Vice-coordinator of the Board of Auditors of the University Roma Tre.
From 2014 he is President of the University Society for Latin Studies, Vice-President of the Center for Humanistic Studies ‘Marco Tullio Cicerone’ in Arpino and Director of the Scientific Commitee of this Center. He is also member of the Board for the development of Classical Culture at the Ministry of Education, University and Research.
In 1991 he obtained the XXXII Certamen Capitolinum Prize – young researchers section, for his edition of the grammatical treatise of Macrobio. 
His research interests are mainly oriented on Late Antiquity cultural, historical and philological problems, with specific focus on the transmission of classical culture and texts, and on teaching of Latin language and grammar in the Antiquity and the Middle Age. He published the treatise De verborum Graeci et Latini differentiis vel societatibus of Macrobius, and many papers concerning the late antique grammatical tradition, with a specific focus on composition, features and manuscript tradition of minor grammatical works, such as the ortographical treatise of Ps. Caper and Agroecius, and the Explanationes in Donatum. In this framework he oriented his research activity about the linguistic witness provided by these works for the study of linguistic changes of Latin in late Antiquity, for the history of teaching and linguistic learning in the ancient  world, with a specific focus about the importance of Cicero's works and the ancient witness of Catullus maniscript tradition.  
He worked even about Horatius and he was Chief Redactor of the Enciclopedia Oraziana at the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani from 1996 to 1998.
He is coordinator of a research project for the cataloguing of latin grammatical manuscripts written within the eleventh century, and he was Director of the Center for the Study of Manuscripts and Printed Books from Antiquity to the Renaissance at the Department of Humanities of the University of Cassino; he was coordinator of the University of Cassino  PhD programme ‘Literary and historical Sciences in the Digital Age’ and of many others PhD programmes in the same University from 2008 to 2018. He participated as speaker in several national and international conferences, and he organized some international conferences, such as the 11th Course of the International School for the Study of Written Records of Majorana Center in Erice, the annual Cicero Conferences in Arpino, and the international workshop Libri e testi.
