Abstract: In this paper, I reconsider the evidence on and former analyses of the problematic Old Assyrian substantive tuzzinnum, attested in texts from the Cappadocian colonies. I will re-assess the most recent hypotheses and propose restricting the spectrum of its reconstructed meanings, thereby offering a possible explanation for the much-debated borrowing of the word from the Hittite tuzzi-.
