The course aims at shaping an informative instrument concerning the general methodological aspects of the discipline. The lecture is divided in two parts: a general one, which investigates theories and methods of architectural restoration (Viollet-Le-Duc and John Ruskin) in the European scene; a specific part that investigates some examples directly on the field.
Contents of the course.
1. History of the theories concerning architectural restoration and their development international documents from the concept of restoration to the concept of environmental conservation. NGOs, volounteering and bottom-up actions Intervention: restoration, reinforcement, release, reinstate, reconstruction, archeological restoration, urbanee restoration.
2. Research in the field of the procedures and theories of architectural restoration.
Short written test; as far as it concernes examples and field reaserch, students can choose to create a short illustrated essay in relation to one of the monuments discussed throughout the course. In this case the written test will be replaced with an oral test.
