Learning outcomes

The course aims to present, analyse and discuss some interesting cases of the construction of meanings through sound and voice in the history of music.

Syllabus

The seminar aims to analyse the role of voice and sound in music historiography from the 19th century to the present day. Some of the main historiographical works on the Middle Ages and the Renaissance written between 1800 and the middle of the following century will be analysed and discussed; likewise, recordings of music from the same historical period, published from the 1930s to the present day, will be analysed.
