Learning outcomes

The twofold course (preliminary and advanced) aims at providing the connection between cultivation and thought, between nature and art in the garden. The student will comprehend the cultural value of the garden through the diversification of its shape and function during the years. Images of the most significant gardens will give comprehension of the role carried out by them selves in the cultural and historical evolution; the course will also give the opportunity to gain respect and love in regards of such a fragile and perishable work of art, in order to have preservation.

Syllabus

Ancient garden: Babilonian, Persian, Hellenistic-Roman. Italian garden (Especially in Veneto) from the Middle Eve to the end of XVIII century. The course includes possible visits to some historical gardens.

Assessment methods and criteria

Acquaintance of the subjects developed during the course and suggested in the bibliography. Personal judgement ability. Written test.
