Bachelor’s degree in Humanities

Graduates in Arts and Humanities should have an academic preparation that will allow them to know and make known, by way of critical analysis, the “cultural products” of humanity throughout the various historical epochs of mankind: language, literature and other forms of communication (e.g. music, theatre, etc.), fine arts, history of the various eras, and the environment in so far as it is modified by man (human geography). The attainment of such a preparation is the basic educational objective of this degree course in Arts and Humanities at the University of Verona. Thus graduates in Arts and Humanities should: • acquire complete mastery of the Italian language, both spoken and written, with the capacity to apply this knowledge to a wide range of fields (cultural, communicative, and professional); • acquire a sold methodological and historical foundation in the study of linguistics philology, history and art history; • acquire a solid knowledge of historical and anthropological issues as well as the culture of Italian literature, philology, linguistics and fine arts, from classical antiquity to the contemporary era within the European context and by way of a direct understanding of original texts and documents; • acquire the ability to use automated information systems and information technology as applied to this field of study; • acquire the ability to approach issues related to literature, history and fine arts in a context that recognizes and integrates ethnic, cultural and genre differences; • develop appropriate abilities of communication and interpersonal relations with an awareness of ethnic, cultural and genre differences. With the aim of allowing graduates in Arts and Humanities to deepen their knowledge in a specific cultural field, as well as in relation to graduates eventually enrolling for a postgraduate degree, this undergraduate programme is divided into courses whose objectives are extensively defined in the Undergraduate Degree Regulations. In relation to the general aims of the course of study as well as those of the individual academic courses, the degree course in Arts and Humanities distributes what is offered within the three-year degree period according to the following criteria: • the first year - and this holds true for all courses - accentuates propaedeutical elements with the aim of providing knowledge, abilities and competencies which are fundamental to the knowledge-acquisition of the history of literature, philology, the foundations of history, as well as humanistic geography; • the second year, though it still assigns a significant number of credits to foundational knowledge, does give space to some specialised elements, which will vary depending on the chosen course of study; • the third year is nearly entirely dedicated to the specializations of the chosen course of study and to preparation for the final exam.

Degree programme annual factsheet (SUA-CdS)

As part of the Quality Assurance system, complete, updated and easily available information on objectives, study plan, resources used and results achieved for each degree programme is made available through the SUA-CdS - Scheda Unica Annuale del Corso di Studio (Degree programme annual factsheet). This includes an Overview and three public sections (Learning Objectives, Student Experience, Learning Outcomes) which together provide a wide range of information about each degree programme. The SUA-CdS also contains an administrative section (Administration and Quality Management) that is for internal use only.

The Degree programme annual factsheet (SUA-CdS), which is currently available only in Italian, is a valuable tool that can be used by the University to design, implement and reorganise, as well as to evaluate, each degree programme. However, the SUA-CdS factsheet is also useful for students, to help them choose the right programme of study.
