Interuniversity PhD in History, Geography and Anthropology

Overview

The School belongs to the Department of History, Geography and Ancient Studies and came to fruition from a collaboration between the University of Padua, Ca 'Foscari University of Venice and the University of Verona. The high level of education it provides young researchers is recognised both nationally and internationally. It offers main areas of study:
  • Social history of Europe and the Mediterranean at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice
  • Historical and historical-religious studies at the University of Padova
  • Human and physical geography at the Universtiy of Padova
  • History and Anthropology at the University of Verona
  • Economic history at the University of Verona
Within the School, there are historians, anthropologists, physical geographers and human geographers, thus creating an ideal environment for stimulating PhD candidates to learn methodologies and habits that will allow them to remain open-minded to the potential of cross links, whether amongst different humanities disciplines or between the humanities and hard sciences.

Candidates who pass the final exam will be awarded the title of Doctor of Research and will receive a certificate affirming their area of specialisation, the administrative headquarters, as well as the School of History, Geography and Anthropology (Ca’ Foscary University of Venice, University of Padova and University of Verona).

Study abroad opportunities
PhD candidates may undertake a study abroad period where they choose, either at one of the School’s existing partner universities or at different university with which the School could consider forging new links. It is advisable to develop a study abroad period under the Erasmus programme or with a thesis co-supervisor. The latter involves the PhD candidate conducting their thesis at the two partner sites for alternating periods under the supervision of two supervisors, one for each site. After passing one (single) final exam, they will be awarded with a certificate (double or joint) that shall be recognised in both countries.
