Learning outcomes

Investigation of the development of the main musical structure (Aria) in the musical theatre between the XVIIIth and the XIXth century. The second half of the XVIIIth century is a renewing moment for the European musical culture. An emblematic figure of its time was Antonio Salieri, the last Asburgian Kappelmeister

Contents of the course:
Part A: CHRONOLOGY OF ANTONIO SALIERI’S LIFE AND WORKS:
- Opera kinds in Italy and in Vienna throughout Salieri’s period. Salieri’s début in Vienna and in Italy
CHRONOLOGY OF HIS LIFE AND WORKS:
- The relationship with Gluck, the Reform of musical work and the début in Paris. The connection between text and music in Salieri; Mozart’s revolution.
ITINERARY OF A DISCOVERY:

Part B: Cultural and artistic development of the “Aria” in the musical theatre between 1700 and 1800.
