Learning outcomes

Acquaintance of issues concerning archaeology as investigation of the material culture and history of Greek and Roman art (architecture, painting, sculpture, minor arts).

Syllabus

Contents of the course: Investigation of issues that are relevant in history of Greek and Roman art. Lessons pertaining: philological archaeology, classic sources, major excavations in Italy, Greece and Asia Minor, techniques of archaeological excavations, essential bibliography. Practical-theoretical seminars, investigation and graphic development of materials, at the end of the course. Guided visits to monuments, archaeological sites and museums in Northern Italy. To better understand the techniques used in archaeology, the professor suggests a practical participation to an excavation campaign during the summer.
