study of the development of the Italian art heritage from the 15th to the early 19th century. The course is intended to take into consideration art works as related to particular historical and cultural contexts, authors’ beliefs and deep meanings.

Syllabus

Content of the course: art history from the early 15th century (Brunelleschi) to the early 19th century (Canova). Lessons will be dedicated to artistic phenomena of particular interest under a formal or methodological point of view.

Texts of reference: notes from lessons. Anyhow the study can also be conducted on a good art history manual (in different volumes); i.e.:
C. BERTELLI – G. BRIGANTI – A. GIULIANO, Storia dell’arte italiana, Milano, Electa-Mondadori, 1986 (or following reprints).

Teaching methods: two lessons a week lasting two hours each. The general part is the same for students who attend the course and also for those who cannot. These last students are invited to be present at least at the first lessons to receive useful information for the preparation of the exam.
