Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the basic historical and cultural coordinates in order to enable the students to recognise the different approaches to Graeco-Latin literature, starting from the Late Antiquity through the Middle Ages and focussing especially on Vergil; It also aims to give an update on the current debate regarding the so-called 'Reception Studies'.

Syllabus

The course aims to offer in the first part an overview of the influences of Graeco-Latin Literature (from Homer to V CE) on Western Literatures. The contents will be expounded following a chronological basis, starting from the Late Antiquity through the Middle Ages. Case studies will be provided for each period, with a particular focus on Vergil.

Educational material will be provided by the teacher.
