As the end of the module, the student will be able to:
describe and explain the process of grammaticalisation of the following procedural expressions:
- the conditional tense,
- the prepositions A and POUR in French and NA and U in Serbian,
- the deictic expression LA (TU) in French and Serbian.
Teacher: Prof. Dr. Tijana Ašić (Un. of Belgrado / Un. of Kragujevac)
The first lecture will show how the final constructions in various languages become the marker of temporal posteriority in narration.
The second lecture will introduce the so called telic construction (e.g. go to school, be in hospital), whose function is to intertwine the spatial reading with the functional one.
Finally, the third lecture will analyse a quite specific phenomenon in French and Serbian, where the deictic expression loses its indexical nature and becomes a marker of definiteness and a pragmatic particle.
