The course aims to offer to the students a selection and an analysis of the essays published in the Western world during the 19th and the 20th century that were crucial in the construction of important critical methodologies.
The course aims to offer a rich and updated overview of the methodologies of literary criticism by retracing their historical evolution in an interdisciplinary perspective. Moving from the cornerstones of Western critical thought, we will focus in particular on the changes that have occurred in literary production following the advent of electromagnetic and digital technologies. The course aims also to stimulate the application of the main critical methodologies established since the end of the 18th century both to works of absolute importance in the literary tradition and to their respective transpositions and adaptations in other media.
In the course of the didactics the following topics will be dealt with:
- the definition of the concept of literature and the functions of criticism;
- the tools and orientations of modern and contemporary criticism;
- the problems posed by the convergence between media.
THE COURSE IS DELIVERED THROUGH ONLINE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS PANOPTO AND MOODLE.
