The course aims at providing the students with the basic methodological tools that are required to understand and analyze the theatrical performance and its specific forms, functions, and meanings in different historical, social, and cultural contexts. At the end of the course students will be asked to recognize the mutual relationship between the elements of a performance (text, space, acting, scenography, costume, light, music) and the different importance that each of them have according to the specific periods of theatre history on which the programme will focus.
