The Midwifery Trade between the 17th and 18th Century: Medical Knowledge, Female Writings, and Common Practices
Combining the history of medicine and gender history, his doctoral research project considers a comparative study of a selected collection of medical treatises concerning midwifery, written between the 17th and 18th century. Starting from the analysis of these documents, the aim is to highlight the vocabulary and rhetoric used by midwives especially upon addressing their female trainees. From the analysis of the written medical treaties, the final objective is to shed some light on multiple aspects of the history of midwifery between the 17th and 18th century and the building of said medical knowledge, maintaining a point of view both theoretical and practical.
