Maria Giuliana Facchini è laureata in Lettere Classiche presso l’Università degli Studi di Milano. Dal 2001 è Professore Associato di Archeologia e storia dell’Arte greca e romana presso. E' inoltre docente nel dottorato di ricerca di Scienze archeologiche dell’Università degli studi di Padova (coord.Francsca E.Ghedini). Un aspetto considerevole dell’attività di ricerca della docente riguarda l’attività di scavo condotta ad Angera (VA), a Brignano Frascata (AL), a Calvatone (CR), Villa del Foro (AL) e Villadose (RO).
Vari sono inoltre i campi di ricerca in cui la docente è impegnata da anni : l’oreficeria e la glittica italica e romana, il collezionismo di gemme e calchi,l’oreficeria antica,la diffusione delle anfore in Cisalpina e la produzione vetraria di età romana: quest’ultimo argomento in particolare viene approfondito sia sul piano tecnico tipologico che su quello più vasto dei traffici esistenti fra la Cisalpina e le altre aree romanizzate. Per quanto concerne invece le ricerche sull’oreficeria la glittica e il collezionismo di gemme e calchi la docente ha in corso di stampa il secondo volume sulla ritrattistica nei calchi di gemme conservati presso il Museo archeologico di Verona.
E’ autrice di oltre un centinaio di pubblicazioni (a carattere monografico, contributi in atti di convegni nazionali ed internazionali, artisti in riviste a carattere scientifico e recensioni), relative agli scavi diretti, alle ricerche sulla cultura materiale, alla circolazione dei contenitori da trasporto, alla glittica e all’oreficeria e al collezionismo di gemme nella Venetia.
