Born in Padua in 1963, Enrico M. Dal Pozzolo obtained his BA with a major in History of the Art of the Early Modern Period in Padua with an honors thesis on the early period of Lorenzo Lotto. He obtained his PhD in 1996 with a thesis on the Vicentine painter Giovanni Bonconsiglio, known as
il Marescalco, whose complete catalogue of works he reconstructed (published by Silvana Editoriale in 1998). In 1997-99 he obtained a post-doctoral appointment at the Department of Human Sciences (Scienze Umane) at the University of Ferrara, with a project on the Bolognese painter Giuseppe Santi. In 1999 he obtained a research appointment (
ricercatore) in Art History of the early Modern Period at the University of Verona, where he has been teaching Museology since 1999. He was re-appointed in 2002 and in 2006 was appointed Associate Professor. As holder of the Art History chair he is responsible for the courses on History of Modern art.
From 2000 till 2002 he was assigned the first part of the course on Art History (Methodology of Art-Historical research) of the MA program for Program of the Conservation of the Cultural Assets (
Corso di Laurea in Conservazione di Beni Culturali) at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. From 2012 he is Director of LANIAC (Laboratory for non-invasive analysis of ancient and contemporary art) at the University of Verona.
He is the author of more than 400 scholarly contributions ranging from monographs to essays, articles in catalogues of museums and exhibitions, conference proceedings, reviews and entries in exhibition and museum catalogs. His main field of research is Venetian painting from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries, with an especial interest in philological and iconological issues and questions related to the history of collecting and the art market. He is a member of the scientific boards of the
Fondazione Tiziano e Cadore, and of the periodicals
Studi Tizianeschi,
Venezia Cinquecento and
Studi di storia dell’arte. He is the editor of the book series
Festina lente, produced by the Treviso publisher ZeL. He curated the exhibitions:
Giorgione (Castelfranco Veneto, 2009-10),
Venezia e l’Egitto (Venezia, Palazzo Ducale 2011-12),
Andrea Schiavone (Venezia, Museo Correr, 28 novembre 2015 – 10 aprile 2016),
Labirinti del cuore. I ‘Due amici’ di Giorgione e le stagioni del sentimento tra Venezia e Roma (Roma, Palazzo Venezia – Castel Sant’Angelo, 24 giugno - 17 settembre 2017). Currently he is working - with Miguel Falomir - on an exhibition on
Lorenzo Lotto: the Portraits (Madrid, Prado – London, National Gallery, 2018-19).
