Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide students with a thorough knowledge of Renaissance painting in Trento, and particularly of Francesco Verla and Marcello Fogolino, to which two exhibitions are dedicated in the city.

Syllabus

Francesco Verla, Marcello Fogolino and the beginning of the Renaissance in Trento.

On the occasion of the two exhibitions dedicated to Verla and Fogolino, respectively at the Museo Diocesano and at the Castello del Buonconsiglio, the course intends to deepen and contextualize the figures of the two painters from Vicenza, who played an important role in the introduction of Renaissance artistic novelties in the Bishopric Principality.

The life and work of the two artists will be analyzed, focusing on aspects of style, patronage, iconography and historical fortune.
