He dedicates particular attention, as regards criticism and literary historiography, to the works of Giovita Scalvini, Paolo Emiliani Giudici, Cesare Cantù, Luigi Settembrini. For the narrative, and for the overall cultural role, he focuses especially on the work and the figure of Alessandro Manzoni and Niccolò Tommaseo.
