Postgraduate Degree in Art Studies

Course not running

Overview

Students in this course learn about content, methods and techniques of art history.
The study of art history is divided into the following periods: Greco-Roman, medieval, modern and contemporary. This presents a wide scope that connects well with literary and historical studies.
Learning takes place within an interdisciplinary academic framework so that students can extend and deepen the knowledge and understanding gained during their Bachelor degree. It provides an introduction to advanced methods and techniques for understanding works of art and archaeological excavations, as well as the importance of documents and related materials. The acquisition of these methods may be facilitated by internships and apprenticeships in workshops, artistic or archaeological structures, and may be in collaboration with other universities, organisations or government departments either in Italy or abroad.
Students will also learn about the main technological tools used to assist study and research, in particular regarding the cataloguing and documentation of historical and artistic heritage and its contexts.
Educational objectives: Students will obtain specific expertise in art history, from its origins until the present day, with deeper knowledge in ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary art as well as museology and art criticism.
