Learning outcomes

This course aims at introducing the concept of “sign” and the abstract characteristics of semiotic processes which identify specifics codes, human and animal language, information technology artificial language and technical communication. Particular attention to interface between semiotics and cognitive processes, investigation of the relevance of language/mind and computational theory in a semiotic perspective. Besides, the course will provide a basic historical set of semiotics’ fundamental concept.

Syllabus

(1) Historical elements of the concept of sign through readings and comment of classical text concerning the subject, from Antiquity to the Twentieth century (prof. Graffi).
(2) Formal characteristics of semiotic processes. Language and mind in a semiotic perspective. Elements of textual semiotics.
