Lesson timetable

Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of matherials that found cultural heritages and their interaction with the environment in which they’re placed. Materials will be described from a chemical-product point of view; causes of deterioration will be analysed in relation to environmental contamination.

Syllabus

Contents of the course:
1) Causes of deterioration in cultural heritages (physical causes, chemical contamination, main corrupting agents and their effect on the environment)
2) Materials forming cultural heritages (natural and artificial memorial plaques, metals, paper, wood, leathers, parchment, glass, glazes, carpets, colourings, tapestry)
3) Deterioration of the materials (deterioration of metals, of memorial plaques, of colours).

Assessment methods and criteria

Acquaintance of the subjects developed during the course and suggested in the bibliography. Personal judgement ability. Written test.
