Learning outcomes

Module A: investigation of the evolution of Duet in the music theatre between the Eighteenth and Nineteenth century.
Module B: Work of art and its production: from the beginning to our days. The aims of the course are:
1) SINCHRONIC ORGANIZATION: characteristics of the cultural production and its production process: a system integrated between promoters, accomplishers and addressees which has often influenced the musical forms of this kind of entertainment.
2) DIACHRONIC DEVELOPMENT: traces of the connection between music, culture and political theatre in the changes of society; from a noble work of art to an industry, to the current reality in which the opera entertainment is involved in a greater manager evolution of artistic-cultural organizations.

Syllabus

Module A: Structural and artistic evolution of the Duet in the music theatre between 1700 and 1800.
Module B: Opening lecture; synchronic organization: the productive system, promoters, accomplishers and addressees. Opera score, libretto, spectacular, visual, chorographic elements, theatre context.
Diachronic development: Chronology of the history of Opera
Opera genres in music theatre: general aspects. Until 1870: court opera, itinerary opera. Serious opera, comic opera and intermezzo. Bills: Sartori Catalogue. 1780-1880: economical events in the opera industry. Significant examples of the opera production. Genesis and structure of some characteristic opera that are still played in our days. Opera consumption today: what is the future of opera.
