This course will give a general introduction to the main historical-artistic research methods of the XX century, with a brief theoretical framing and study of exemplar cases.


Module: ICONOLOGIA E ICONOGRAFIA (M)

The course gives an introduction to iconography and iconology, one of the most important methodologies in the discipline of art history, both in its historiographical and theoretical background and in its concrete research application.

Contents of the Course. The course is divided in two parts. The first part will give a general introduction to the main methodologies of The History of Art from the end of the 1800s to the present. Specifically, the application of documentary research, attribution, and the historical, contextual and literary connections will be analyzed. The second part of the course will examine some profane themes that can be recognized in the production of various Venetian painters in the XVI century.
