History of Venetian Art (m) (2015/2016)

Learning outcomes

This course aims to provide the fundamental tools to understand the political meaning of some peculiar images in the Venetian art, during the XV-XVI centuries; in this context, the works of art will be studied with the help of a wide range of sources (litterature, documents, etc.).

This course will focus on the main themes illustrating the myth of Venice as a just and even-tempered Republic. In this light, works of art destined for governmental seats (such as Palazzo Ducale), private dwellings and churches (namely funerary monuments) will be the primary object of analysis.
