Learning outcomes

From Guido Bigarelli to Nicola Pisano: at the beginning of the Italian gothic sculpture.

The course aims to analyze the history of italian sculpture in the XIIIth century, from the so called 'scuola campionese' to the new naturalism by Nicola Pisano.
The major topics will be:
- Benedetto Antelami's activity in Parma, Fidenza, Vercelli
- The so called 'scuola campionese'
- Guido Bigarelli's activity in Lucca, Pisa and Modena
- Adamo di Arogno and the Cathedral of Trento
- Nicola Pisano's activity in Lucca, Pisa and Siena and the success of his style

Syllabus

The history of the tuscan sculpture of the XIIIth century will be taken into consideration: starting from the activity of the so called 'scuola campionese', to the intervention of Nicola Pisano on the façade of San Martino in Lucca, to his primacy in the greatest public sculptural enterprises.
