Learning outcomes

The course aims at presenting a preliminary approach to the concept of artistic-architectural-furniture heritage, through a consideration of the socio-cultural patterns through which works of art where released to the public acquaintance. Architectural space considered as the main matrix of rapresentative and stand space.

Syllabus

Utopia architecture, architecture without architects, development of architectural and stand space from Beaux-Arts to Bauhaus, the concept of furnish: from capital good to consumer good. Art Nouveau through the exaples of Gaudì, British Arts and Crafts (Ruskin, Morris, Mackintosh). Catalan Modernism (Gaudì) and the British Arts and Crafts (Morris, Ruskin). Monographic part: Bauhaus, from the huge international expositions to the mass and elite diffusion.
Research in the field through the investigation of set design in the early Twentieth century: restored buildings in Verona (Castelvecchio and Palazzo della Prefettura).

Assessment methods and criteria

Short written test, with the possibility to produce an illustrated essay concerning a subject agreed with the professor; in this case the written test will be replaced with an oral one.
