The course aims at shaping an informative instrument concerning the general methodological aspects of the discipline. The lecture is divided in two parts: a general one, which investigates theories and methods of architectural restoration (Viollet-Le-Duc and John Ruskin) in the European scene; a specific part that investigates some examples directly on the field.
Contents of the course.
1. History of the theories concerning architectural restoration and their development – international documents – from the concept of restoration to the concept of environmental conservation. NGOs, volounteering and bottom-up actions – Intervention: restoration, reinforcement, release, reinstate, reconstruction, archeological restoration, urbanee restoration.
2. Research in the field of the procedures and theories of architectural restoration.
Short written test; as far as it concernes examples and field reaserch, students can choose to create a short illustrated essay in relation to one of the monuments discussed throughout the course. In this case the written test will be replaced with an oral test.
