The course of Byzantine Art History (m) aims to train the student: for the analysis of the main artistic expressions of Byzantine civilization, from the foundation of Constantinople to the fall of the Eastern Empire (330-1453); for the evaluation of the technical aspects of the main works of art in the Byzantine sphere; to evaluate with comparative method the Eastern and Western artistic phenomena; to identify the characteristics of the works of art produced in the Byzantine koine. At the end of the course the student should be able to: understand the aspects that distinguish the art of the Christian East, both in the capital and in the peripheral regions; recognize the main characteristics of the Byzantine works of art; distinguish the main chronology of oriental artefacts; trace links between oriental and western art.
