I am a postdoctoral researcher and adjunct professor in History of Science and Science Communication at the University of Verona, and an associated researcher at the Institut d’Arqueologia de la Universitat de Barcelona (IAUB). My work lies at the intersection of history and philosophy of science, science and technology studies, the history of archaeology and prehistory, gender studies, and museum and collection studies. I examine the production, circulation, and public communication of scientific knowledge across disciplinary, institutional, and social contexts. I am particularly interested in the role of objects, visual cultures, data, and scientific discourses in shaping scientific authority, cultural meaning, and narratives of deep time and the human past. My work pays particular attention to collective identities, inclusion and exclusion, human–environment relations, cognitive approaches to prehistoric interpretation, and gendered asymmetries of visibility and participation.
My work also addresses science communication, public engagement, memory studies, and cognitive approaches to visual interpretation, including educational projects on ancient DNA, radiocarbon dating, and the critical analysis of gender bias in prehistoric narratives. In both research and teaching, I aim to build dialogue between academic research, museums, schools, and wider publics, promoting a historically informed, reflexive, and socially responsible approach to science communication and scientific heritage.
From 2023 to 2025, I was a member of the research team of the PRIN project RIPRESA – Re-assessing Italian Prehistorical Studies from a Transdisciplinary Perspective, developed by the University of Verona, the National Research Council of Italy, and the Civic Museums of Verona. I am also a member of the international research group ArqueólogAs/Herstory. Mujeres y Arqueología en España en su contexto internacional: visiones poliédricas de resiliencia, of the European network Women in Natural History Museums and Collections, and of the Association for Critical Heritage Studies. I serve as editor of the Did-Acta section of Scientia. Rivista della Società Italiana di Storia della Scienza and as co-editor of NatureCulture.
My publications include the special issue Rethinking Ancient Remains: Archaeological Practices and the Circulation of Scientific Knowledge (Nuncius, 2022), the co-edited volumes Il tempo profondo dell’umanità (Carocci, 2025) and Pratiche fotografiche. Documentare, misurare e divulgare nelle scienze tra Otto e Novecento (NatureCulture, 2025), and my monograph Immaginare le origini. Scienza, preistoria e politica nell’opera di Giuseppe Sergi (Carocci, 2026). I have also published on archaeological collecting, gendered visual practices, scientific nationalism, and the public circulation of knowledge about human origins.
